Councillor Keith Iddon

We are deeply saddened to learn that our dear friend and colleague, Councillor Keith Iddon has passed away.

Our deepest condolences are with Keith's family, friends and colleagues at this sad time.

Born and raised in Chorley, Keith grew up up in the rural village of Croston and developed a passion for motorcycles and trucks as a teen. Following in the footsteps of his father, Keith embarked on a long career in the haulage industry before setting up the family business, formerly K&P Transport Limited, which is now run by twin sons, William and John Iddon, both 39.

Despite turning to politics, he still owned a current HGV licence and undertook short stints as a truck driver on the weekends.

Keith served on Chorley Council for 17 years, being elected for Eccleston and Mawdesley later, Croston Mawdesley and Euxton South ward in 2006.

He also served as County Councillor and most recently Chairman of Lancashire County Council in its 50th year.

During his tenure with Chorley Council, Keith was appointed as the Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee in May 2023 and served as the Chair of the Licensing and Public Safety Committee from 2008 until 2011. He also has served on a variety of Committee and working groups, including the Licensing and Public Safety Committee and Planning Committee.

Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council said, "We're shocked and saddened by the sudden loss of our friend, Keith and our thoughts are with his loved ones. Keith was a dedicated member of Chorley Council and was revered by the communities he served.

"Keith has recently been appointed Chairman of Lancashire County Council and was incredibly honoured to take on the role. He was a true gent, was jovial and was a real diplomat and peacemaker both inside and outside of the Chamber.

"Such a tragic loss, and he will be missed by all of us."

Councillor Alan Cullens, Leader of the Conservative Group in Chorley said, "I send my deepest condolences to Barbara, his family and many friends. Keith has been an integral part of the Conservative team in Chorley for nearly 20 years and not only have we lost a dedicated Councillor but a dear friend.

"Keith was always a gentleman with a great sense of humour who would regularly go out of his way to help residents and mentor new Councillors. Keith also served as a County Councillor and had just started his term as Chairman. As Deputy last year he attended numerous events on behalf of the Council and his enthusiasm for the County and its people was always there to see.

"His passing is a sad loss to many and a great loss to political life. He will be missed greatly and will always be remembered with great affection."
