Waste and recycling information

Thank you for recycling your waste!

In 2022 we recycled:

  • over 20,000 tonnes of household waste, which is about the same weight as 200 blue whales.  1 tonne is about the weight of a small car.
  • Chorley's recycling rate increased from 45.1% in 2020/21 to 46.0% in 2022/23. 
  • the average amount of waste produced annually per household fell from 528 kg in 2020/21 to 475 kg in 2021/22, and down to 445 kg in 2022/23. 
  • over 15,000 bins are emptied by us each day (Monday to Friday)

  • April - June 2023 - 46.2%
  • January - March 2023 -  45.4%

2022 recycling rates

The year's quarterly recycling rates are as follows.

  • October - December 2022 - 46.2%
  • July - September 2022 - 45.3%
  • April - June 2022 - 47.1%
  • January - March 2022 -  44.4%

2021 recycling rates

The year's quarterly recycling rates are as follows.

  • October - December 2021 - 46.9%
  • July - September 2021 - 49.1%
  • April - June 2021 - 46.3%
  • January - March 2021 - 40.9%

2020 recycling rates

The year's quarterly recycling rates are as follows.

  • October - December 2020 - 42.8%
  • July - September 2020 - 47.1%
  • April - June 2020 - 48.8%
  • January - March 2020 - 44.1%

2019 recycling rates

The year's quarterly recycling rates are as follows.

  • October - December 2019 - 43.7%
  • July - September 2019 - 48.9%
  • April - June 2019 - 49.3%
  • January - March 2019 - 38.7%

2018 recycling rates

The year's quarterly recycling rates are as follows.

  • October - December 2018 - 41.7%
  • July - September 2018 - 44.6%
